Autothermal thermophilic aerobic digestion (ATAD)
Simply put is harnessing the power of bugs to produce a class A solids. Call it an aerobic digester on steroids. This is not a heated system, no fuels required, just biosolids and bugs. Pre-thicken, insulate, aerate and mix. The system builds temperature and operates at roughly 140 degrees typical. Thermal Process Systems (TPS) ATAD uses thermophilic bacteria to process the wasted solids. Their biological activity is so intense that they ARE the heat source. Enough heat not only to pasteurize solids, but also to heat buildings and further dry cake solids if desired. The end result is a pathogen free odorless solid that has nutrient properties that have been certified to be better than commercial fertilizer. Documented total solids destruction of up to 70%, higher than anaerobic digestion, without the safety and odor issues.
This system is an ideal option for either greenfield or retrofit scenarios. Because the waste is pre-thickened prior to digestion, significant capacity increases can be realized in existing digesters. Typical influent solids of 5-7% yield a 50% or higher capacity gain.
